Mission Statement and Philosophy

Our Program
"You all offer something for everyone, which is great. It is obvious that a great deal of thought and energy goes into both planning and execution."
Kids After Hours has been providing school aged children with quality childcare and summer camp programs since 1989. Founded with 22 children by Bob and Tammy Sickels in Burtonsville, MD, Kids After Hours has grown to provide care for hundreds of families throughout Montgomery County over the last 20 years. We pride ourselves in providing a safe, fun and stimulating environment for children. Activities at Kid After Hours are planned to develop children's creative expression and provide opportunities for socialization. The kids at Kids After Hours gain confidence and independence in a friendly, safe environment. Many of them come full circle beginning in our program as kids and returning to us a grown, experienced staff members ready to impart the Kids After Hours spirit to others.
Through planned growth over the past two decades, Kids After Hours has developed its infrastructure and its Main Office. This allows Directors to be 100% dedicated to your children and the development of their curriculum. TheKids After Hours Main Office responsibilities include: billing, enrollment, advertising, administrative duties related to staff and licensing, scheduling of maintenance and use of Kids After Hours vehicles and special equipment, etc. Please don't hesitate to call us if you have any questions about our program.
Formula for Fun
Energetic Staff
Energetic, Enthusiastic Staff   +   Variety of Activities   +   Safe, Secure Surrounding   =   Fun at Kids After Hours
Just like the formula shows, the fun starts with a staff that is involved and excited about what they are doing. If they don't have those qualities, they are not on staff at Kids After Hours. Our Center Directors are involved from planning fun activities to taking part in them with the kids each and every day all the while evaluating the fun level and making things even more fun! Our staff's energy and creativity makesKids After Hours a truly special and unique place for kids to come and have fun.
Kids After Hours brings over 22 years of experience in childcare, developing programs, and activities designed to help keep your children engaged, interested, and having fun. We're also very proud of what it says about our programs, that so many of our former campers and before and after hours kids eventually return to us as staff members.
Variety of Activities
Whether its Before and After School Care or Summer Camps, we make sure we provide a wide variety of things for kids to do at our program Centers. From activities like homework time, arts and crafts, computer lab, team sports (even leagues), clubs, and board games, kids have the opportunity to try different things or focus on the ones they already enjoy.
Safe, Secure Surrounding
The safety of your children while under the care of Kids After Hours is our number one priority. Whether at our Centers or out on a field trip, we use a variety of measures to help ensure a safe environment for the more than 1,000 kids that we care for each year. Here are a few of the things we do:
Staffing — We maintain at least a 10:1 child to counselor ratio at all Kids After Hours locations. This child to counselor ratio helps to prevent accidents from happening in the first place, but when they do, we notify parents immediately.

Safety — Whether it's our Before School Care, After School Care, or Summer Camp programs we have processes and procedures in place to maintain safety for each child at Kids After Hours. Children attending our programs must be signed into the Center by the person responsible for them. For the After School Care program, we work with each elementary school to have the Kids After Hours children dismissed from school first, so we are able to take accurate attendance immediately before general dismissal. This helps us identify children not in the proper place before any school buses pull away from a school.

At each of our Centers, members of our staff accompany the children everywhere — hallways, restrooms, classrooms, and outside. Plus, we use a walkie-talkie system to ensure open communication between staff members monitoring children in mulitple locations. We also have special roll call, head count, and bus-check procedures for when our activities take us away from a Center. When it comes time to go home, only those on a child's emergency form are able to sign a child out and take them home — no exceptions. Sorry grandma, even you need to be on the form.
